We kicked the brand new year off in a spirit of true friendship, extending well wishes beyond our center's walls. A group of thoughtful seniors, who call themselves the River Ridge Red Hat Card Committee, got together to pen nice notes inside beautiful greeting cards for others in our northeast Arkansas community.
Most can attest to the delight of opening an envelope thoughtfully addressed to them. But in today's world of screens and technology, greeting cards and letters are becoming a rarity. With every birthday, anniversary, sympathy, and thinking of you card they write, the Red Hatters breathe new life into the dying art of personal correspondence. Unsuspecting recipients of these happy hellos include friends and family members of elders and staff who live in the surrounding communities.
The relaxing act of writing—pen to paper—is a wonderful way to engage the brain, strengthen memory, and keep aging minds sharp. With each written word, the coordination of moving hand with focused eye improves fine motor skills.
These cards create heartfelt connections and strengthen bonds between the folks at River Ridge and their wider Wynne community. And who knows how the joy sparked by this gift will be passed along to others. It's inspiring to imagine the ripple made by one simple act of kindness!
